Meet The Team: Emma Findlay

October 25th 2022

We introduce you to Senior Solicitor, Emma Findlay, who specialises in Guardianships, Family Law and Legal Aid work at d and h.

Dealing with legal issues, especially those concerning the likes of personal finances and family matters, can be a highly sensitive process. Therefore, it’s as important to us that our clients know exactly which of our trusted specialists will be working with them, as we get to know and understand our client’s needs. As part of a new series of blogs, we’d like to introduce you to the individuals you may encounter should you require any of the legal services we provide at d and h.

Meet Senior Solicitor, Emma

Originally working with d and h on a consultancy basis in 2018, Emma Findlay is now a permanent team member based in Orkney as a Senior Solicitor. Before this, Emma had lived in both Aberdeen and Thurso, where she completed a Pre-Diploma Traineeship. Her very first job in the legal industry was in Thurso as a Pre-Diploma Trainee Solicitor before she decided to move back home to Orkney.

Emma’s Specialities

In 2009, after her return to Orkney, Emma worked as a Solicitor in private practice before moving to the public sector. With a number of years of experience behind her, Emma now specialises in Guardianships, Family Law, and Legal Aid work. Emma’s experience allows her to offer advice to those seeking support with family matters, as well as individuals who find themselves in vulnerable positions.

Highlights of the Job

As a Senior Solicitor who specialises in Family Law, there are many aspects of the job Emma appreciates and enjoys. Perhaps the most rewarding element of her role is that due to the areas of law she works in, Emma is able to help people. While her role focuses on both family matters and guardianships, each case she works on involves different individuals who find themselves in unique circumstances. This, she says, keeps the work interesting and diverse. Emma likes knowing that everything she does in her role is to help somebody, whether it is providing protection for vulnerable individuals, stability and security for children, or allowing people to move on with their lives after a separation.

Life Beyond the Legal Industry

When she’s not supporting her clients, Emma and her husband are kept busy with their two children; Alistair who is five, and Ariana who is two, as well as their eight-year-old Cairn Terrier, Gizmo. Emma is a keen traveller, whose favourite destination is the Sunshine State, Florida, home to stunning beaches and plenty of theme parks. Her dream is to one day visit Nashville, the home of country music, which she thinks may knock Florida off the top of the ladder!
