As a law firm based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, we care about our local community. At d and h law, we are always keen to give back wherever possible and we do so throughout the year by supporting a variety of events, charities, and sports teams. In 2022, community outreach allowed us to support 13 teams, charities, and events and we wanted to highlight some of these as we prepare to ring in a new year. It is always great for us to be able to celebrate the achievements in our local community.
Local Events
Throughout the year, there’s always a fantastic number of events taking place across Orkney, Caithness and Sutherland, and the wider area to entertain the community. In May, we were proud to have sponsored the Orkney Folk Festival. Each year, the event sheds light on some of the best musical talent from the local community and also brings new (and known) talent to Orkney for the community to enjoy.
One of the highlights of the annual event calendar is the Halkirk Highland Games. With almost 100 events and a whole host of entertainment, the Games is the premiere sporting event in the North of Scotland, and we are proud to have been a sponsor in 2022. In a similar vein, the Orkney County Show took place in August, and we are proud to have sponsored the Orkney Agricultural Society! With over 90 trade stands that highlight the quality of produce and crafts we are fortunate to enjoy in Orkney, and the wide array of entertainment throughout the day, this annual event is not one to be missed in 2023.
In October, the Scottish Ploughing Championships were held in Thurso. An event which aims to emphasise the importance of good ploughing in an ever-changing world, the championships take place in a different town each year. We are proud to have shared support for the event in 2022 and would like to send our good wishes to all those who took part.
Our final event of the year was the Alfred Flett 90th Year in Business Ball raising funds for Clan Cancer Support. At d and h we sponsored the auction booklets as well as the printing of the evening’s programme. It was a wonderful evening which raised over £37,000 for Clan Cancer Support.
Sports Teams
It is always fantastic to hear about the success of our local sports teams and we are delighted to have sponsored some talented clubs within the community. We are so excited by the up-and-coming sporting talent within the Netball Orkney Junior Section and are proud to have sponsored their travel this year. In addition to this, d and h law sponsored the Netball Orkney primary school knockouts which highlighted the strength of the sporting talent amongst youngsters in our local community.
In 2022, we sponsored two talented football teams. Firstly, we supported the Thurso Academicals Football Club with their track tops for practice and games. We are also proud to have provided some financial support to Orkney Football Club this year. It has been a delight to follow all the sports teams we were involved with in 2022 and we wish all of the teams we sponsor the best of luck with any remaining games this season. We are sure you all have a bright and successful future ahead of you!
Gifts & Raffles
Not only do we provide funding for charities, teams, and events, but we are also happy to donate gifts and raffle prizes throughout the year. In 2022, d and h have donated hampers to both the Orkney Charitable trust as well as the Orkney Sea Cadets Trafalgar Dinner to help raise funds for each respective cause.
This Christmas we are also supporting Women’s Aid who provide support to women and children affected by domestic abuse. They currently have 27 children in their care, and we have provided gifts for the children to enjoy over this festive period. It is a delight to be able to give back to the community in this way as we are typically involved with legal proceedings across family law, so to be able to provide gifts and support to children who may be in trouble in a more relaxed (and enjoyable) manner is very rewarding.
Looking For Future Support?
As 2022 comes to an end, we’re looking forward to supporting the community next year and beyond. We are delighted to see the local community thrive, and to play any part in this is hugely rewarding. We’ve already got some exciting events and sponsorships lined up for the start of 2023 which we can’t wait to share!
